Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner responds to Machine Gun Kelly album cover similarities
Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast has responded to claims that Machine Gun Kelly's Mainstream Sellout album artwork looks similar to Jubilee, saying she thinks "they’re very different concepts."
Yesterday (14 March) Machine Gun Kelly shared details of his Mainstream Sellout album, and after fans and Rolling Stone claimed the artwork was similar to Japanese Breakfast's Jubilee album, Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner has responded to the comparisons.
Zauner shared the Rolling Stone on Twitter, and wrote, "2022’s feud of the year," and it looks like Machine Gun Kelly is now a Japanese Breakfast fan after he replied, "so should we beef over tomato’s or…should i thank them for introducing me to your album, because i just listened and i really like it."

Zauner also spoke to Pitchfork about the similarities, saying she doesn't "think it looks anything like my album cover at all."
She continued, "But I think it’s very funny that Rolling Stone put up an article about it just because there’s a circular fruit in the foreground. I mean his is people throwing tomatoes at him, and mine is persimmons peacefully hanging around me, so I think they’re very different concepts."
Zauner added of Machine Gun Kelly, "I’ve never met Machine Gun Kelly. He seems like a fine person. I can’t imagine having rock beef with anyone, but if I had to choose, it would probably be Machine Gun Kelly."
