Jamie Spears is no longer Britney Spears' conservator
Jamie Spears has been suspended from his role as Britney Spears' conservator after 13 years following multiple objections from the popstar.
During a court hearing yesterday (29 September) an LA judge formally ended Britney Spears' father's conservatorship role effective immediately. The popstar herself was not present at the hearing.
As BBC reports, Judge Brenda Penny appointed an accountant chosen by Spears' legal team - John Zabel - as the temporary co-conservator of Britney Spears' estate, saying it "is in the best interest of the conservatee."
The Guardian notes that the judge also scheduled another hearing on 12 November to discuss whether the popstar's conservatorship should be completely terminated.
Jamie Spears' suspension comes three months after the popstar spoke about her conservatorship (set up in 2008) in open court for the first time. During the hearing, the star stated she would "honestly like to sue my family" due to the controlling nature of the conservatorship, and spoke about being forced to tour and being put on "lithium out of nowhere".
Spears was granted permission to hire her own lawyer in July, who then requested for her father to be replaced as her conservator.
Spears' father was initially in charge of his daughter's estate and personal life as part of the legal arrangement, but due to health reasons he stepped down from his role as her personal conservator in 2019, and was replaced on a temporary basis by care professional Jodi Montgomery.
Earlier this month Jamie Spears filed a petition to end the conservatorship. His lawyer Vivian Thoreen revealed that Spears' father believed "she should get that chance" to live her life without the constraints of a conservatorship.
