James Murphy says Arcade Fire “keep writing new songs” for “epic” upcoming album
In the same way as collaborator Nile Rodgers was the main source of leaks about Daft Punk’s recent album, most of what we know about Arcade Fire’s upcoming LP has come from the mouth of James Murphy, and he’s recently been at it again, talking in interview about the release to NME.
The Canadian band recently announced that the album will come out in October, revealing the news to a random fan via an @ reply on Twitter. But it may not actually be finished yet, the LCD Soundsystem man says, as the “songs keep on coming”.
“”For them, it’s not finished until it’s in stores,” Murphy told the mag. “They’re all so phenomenally talented and full of ideas so songs keep on coming. The last time I dared think it was finished I came back to the studio three days later to mix and they’d written two new songs for the album!”
Murphy was pushed for details about how the LP might sound, but wasn’t giving much away. “”It sounds like Arcade Fire in the way that only Arcade Fire sound like Arcade Fire, you know?” he said. “It’s really fucking epic. Seriously. I mean, I feel at this point like I’m too close to it to really talk it up and do it justice. You know?”
Arcade Fire’s as-yet untitled new album drops on 29 October. Murphy is known to have worked on the release, but refuses that he was a “producer” for it.
