Jambinai announce Bella Union debut A Hermitage, unleash "They Keep Silence"
Recent Bella Union signees Jambinai, a post-rock trio from South Korea, have announced a new LP and shared its lead single.
The band mix traditional Korean folk with intensely dark experiments. Bomi Kim plays the "fiddle-like haegum", Ilwoo Lee brings guitar and piri (a Korean bamboo flute), while Eun Youg Sim adds geomungo, a Korean zither. Speaking about the group, Lee says: “We’re darker than other Korean traditional bands."
Speaking about album track "Deus Benedicat Tibi", Lee explains it was inspired by "Dae Chui Ta'", a work “written for the king when he marches down the street.”
Lee adds: “Nowadays, especially in Korea, many give up their dreams because life gets worse every day. We have the world's highest suicide rate. Our song expresses a person who overcomes all hardship and suffering. I dedicate this song to the people who live in pain, to say, ‘You are the king in your own life’.”
A Hermitage is released 17 June on Bella Union.
Jambinai have been confirmed for a slew of European festivals, including The Great Escape in May, and a headline show at London's Corsica Studios.
