J Mascis announces new album, shares first track "See You At The Movies"
Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis has announced a new solo album Elastic Days with the lead single "See You At The Movies".
Elastic Days will be his third solo release, and follows on from J Mascis' 2014 solo offering Tied To A Star and Dinosaur Jr.'s 2016 release Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not.
Alongside the announcement, Mascis has shared the melodic first single, "See You At The Movies".
Mascis' forthcoming release was recorded in his own own Bisquiteen studio. While Mascis has done the majority of the legwork on his new solo album, there are a few features and guest instrumentals from Ken Miauri on keyboards, Pall Jenkins (Black Heart Procession), Mark Mulcahy (Miracle Legion, etc.), and Zoë Randell (Luluc).
Speaking more about his forthcoming release, Mascis explained, "I took some singing lessons and do vocal warm-ups now, but that was mostly just to keep from blowing out my vocal cords when Dino started touring again. The biggest difference with this record might have to do with the drums. I'd just got a new drum set I was really excited about. I don't have too many drum outlets at the moment, so I played a lot more drums than I'd originally planned. I just kept playing. [laughs] I'd play the acoustic guitar parts then head right to the drums.”
