It looks like a TikTok music streaming app is on the way
A TikTok music streaming app could be on the way after reports that the platform's parent company, ByteDance, filed a trademark application for TikTok Music.
The application for TikTok Music was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office in May, according to Insider, and The Verge reports that the filing claimed TikTok Music will allow users to play, share, download and purchase music, as well as allowing people to create, share and recommend playlists. Users will also reportedly be able to comment on music, and livestream audio and video on the platform.
The trademark application was filed by TikTok's parent company ByteDance, who previously filed a trademark application for TikTok Music in Australia last November.
TikTok Music wouldn't be the first music streaming app launched by ByteDance, as the company launched Resso in India, Brazil and Indonesia back in 2020. Resso and TikTok are already linked in those regions by redirecting users to Resso to access full versions of songs found on TikTok.
It's currently unclear if ByteDance will use the framework from Resso for TikTok Music, or whether it'll be a brand new service.
