Is Tropical's global concept record Black Anything gets a full release
Is Tropical have announced their new record Black Anything and shared another taste - the languid fervour of "Follow The Sun".
The album is being slowly revealed in five parts - the latest of which (part four) arrives today. The other three parts have been shared at various points since the end of 2014.
Each of the five parts has been recorded on a different continent and aims to embody the area which is was created. The five parts all contain two distinct tracks, which are pressed to transparent 10" vinyl - they each feature the continent they were recorded on, so when stacked, you can see the whole world. Simple, eh?
The well-travelled troupe recorded part four of the album in Asia. Speaking about the process, they say:
"Having been to Asia a few times prior to recording 'Black Anything', the one thing that strikes you is how vast and culturally expansive Asia is as a continent. It was never our intention to travel to these continents to make songs that would sound like local traditional music, but more a case of trying to let the surroundings seep into the recording process subliminally and enrich the music. To make only two tracks that 'described' or 'felt' like Asia was impossible, but one thing that had always stood out whilst travelling there was the sun."
Explaining "Following The Sun", Is Tropical added:
"The song was written from seeing this precious imagery everywhere and using it as a metaphor for trying to be a better person. We wanted a song that could take people out of that negative mind set and show something altogether more positive. We've always focused on escapism, often that would revolve around writing about physical places we wanted to be, but this time it was about escaping mentally to a much better place."
Black Anything is being released as a full album by Axis Mundi Records on 11 March. You can pre-order the vinyl bundle now.
