Is Tropical announce new album Black Anything, stream two new tracks now
After being thoroughly mindblowing in 2013 with I'm Leaving - featuring such hits as "Dancing Anymore", with its masturbatory music vid - Is Tropical are eager to return. Today they announce details of their third LP, Black Anything. It was produced by Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode, formerly of Clor). Kirstie Flack - who provided vocals for "Dancing Anymore" - is now also a full-time member of Is Tropical.
It will be a "modular" album, with its ten tracks split over five 10" transparent picture discs released in staggered instalments.
The cosmopolitan nature of Is Tropical has always been integral, and the band, on their Native To tour especially, ventured to all corners of the globe. For Black Anything, that streak rose to prominence once more, with the album being recorded on five continents (poor, lonely Antarctica).
The band have explained their reasoning behind the concept: "Each vinyl will be an art work and a tribute to the continent it was recorded in. It is being made available worldwide without prejudice to territories. The records are being promoted through local networks of people who are inspired by the project."
It's an ambitious approach, even when it comes to something as seemingly simple as the artwork, as the press release notes: "when displayed on top of each other, the five vinyls create the globe, unifying the concept as a whole."
The first 10" - "Crawl"/"On My Way" is due 8 December via NYC's Axis Mundi. You can stream both tracks below.
