Is Joshua Bassett sending for Olivia Rodrigo on new track "Lie Lie Lie"?
Joshua Bassett, another star of the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, has released his new song "Lie Lie Lie", and a lot of fans think it could be about his co-star and rumoured ex Olivia Rodrigo.
"Lie Lie Lie" marks Bassett's first outing of 2021, and arrives as a taster of his upcoming debut EP which will arrive via Warner Records later this year.
Bassett's new single arrives exactly a week on from Olivia Rodrigo's huge debut single "drivers license", which broke Spotify's record for the most daily streams on a non-holiday song (over 17 million streams on 12 January), and a lot of fans reckon the track is a response to Rodrigo's track.
In his own words, Bassett says of the song, "I wrote "Lie, Lie, Lie" after I found out someone close to me had been lying about me behind my back for a long time. It always sucks to hear that someone you thought you could trust would throw you under the bus when it benefits them. It happens to all of us, and I think all you can do is seek out people that build you up rather than tear you down."
Despite Bassett not confirming or denying if it could be about Rodrigo, there are similarities between both videos, with Bassett hanging out of a car window with neon lighting, similar to Rodrigo leaning off the back of a car in her "drivers license" video, further prompting fans to think that Bassett's new single is about his side of their relationship.

Fans have also compared lyrics between both songs, and when put together it could be viewed as a direct conversation.

Other fans have pointed out that Bassett's track can't be about Rodrigo, as he apparently wrote the track back in November 2019, before his reported relationship with Rodrigo.
Joshua Bassett's song "Lie Lie Lie" has nothing to do with Olivia or this whole triangle bullshit between Him, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter. Josh wrote "Lie Lie Lie" back in November of 2019.
