Ahead of her performance at our new music festival The Five Day Forecast next week, get to know Estonia-born, London-based artist IIRIS a little better.
Inspired by almost every aspect of life - from cheese to Max Martin, and Debussy to Bladerunner - the Goldsmiths-educated pop force makes music with huge depth. Songs like "Iridescent Love" sprawl across the expanse of the cosmos, but IIRIS' grounded lyrics make it easily accessible.
Now releasing through London label Hand In Hive (Wyldest, Alma Elste), the synthpop auteur has grand ambitions for 2016 - and it all kicks off next Monday (11 January) at The Lexington.
Tickets for the Five Day Forecast are on sale now.

Could you introduce yourself?
Hello! I'm Iiris. I make pop music that tries to be sonically interesting as well. I like it. Check it out.
What do you try to do with your music and how do you achieve this?
I want freedom in my music. I'm doing music for very selfish reasons. I just want to feel something and be excited about something. I want to explode and to be exhilarated and sexy and sad. I'm trying to achieve this in music by thinking less and doing more following instincts. I'm trying to be as honest as I can... I think its pretty hard to be honest. Its like being water - clear, fluid and reflective (or like Bruce Lee, which is a goal of its own).
To be completely honest you must be in total contact with the most inner needs and desires and look at yourself without judgement. Its been really hard to become more honest, but I feel like I'm getting better at it and getting better at writing songs because of it. Usually I just make some tunes/lyrics/pictures pick my favourite berries and cook them in a pot. Lately I've been cooking with Proverb who has some tasty beats and who is such a master at lush chords.
Can you tell us what influences have shaped your sound?
Life, cats, glitter, loneliness, stars, Baths, Britney Spears, Björk, Max Martin, Sigur Rós, love, night sky, cheese, MJ, Debussy, Terry Riley, gold, velvet, Brian Eno, Cosmos - A Spacetime Odyssey, Bladerunner, NANA, Nobou Uematsu, waterfalls, hunger.
What should people expect from your Five Day Forecast show?
Darkness, holographic stars, and explosions.
What are you working on now/next?
I'm working on a new IIRIS album. I've got all the songs, me and the beautiful amazingness that is Max Doohan (Proverb) are working on it. Also I'm learning how to produce, and on my new album there will be songs that I have produced. I am practicing my top lining with some pretty aah-mazing peeps, but i don't know if i can say something about that yet. Also I'm learning electric guitar and doing a punk band - Peppermint - on the side with my gurls Maya and Catrin. I also need to finish my bachelors in Goldsmiths this school year.
How is 2016 shaping up? What are you looking forward to this year?
I'm looking forward to making lots of music and of course totes looking forward to doing all those things I mentioned. Also looking forward to having some de-lush gigs like the the one happening on the 15th of January in The Lexington! Woop woop!
