Iggy Pop and Matt Sweeney unveil reimagining of The Velvet Underground & Nico's "European Son"
Iggy Pop and Matt Sweeney have teamed up on a reimagined version of The Velvet Underground & Nico's "European Son", which will feature on the I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico album.
Iggy Pop and Matt Sweeney's version of "European Son" is the latest cover to be lifted from the upcoming tribute albumm, following Courtney Barnett's take on "I'll Be Your Mirror", Matt Berninger's version of "I’m Waiting For The Man" and Kurt Vile & The Violators' cover of "Run Run Run".
Sweeney said of their cover, "The Velvet Underground were rock and roll’s finest band. Iggy Pop remains rock and roll’s greatest singer. I am thrilled and humbled that the joyous experience of getting deeply nasty with Iggy on "European Son" can be heard by lifelong VU fans and newcomers."
I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to the Velvet Underground & Nico will also feature contributions from Michael Stipe, Sharon Van Etten with Angel Olsen, Andrew Bird, Lucius, St. Vincent and Thomas Bartlett, Thurston Moore, Bobby Gillespie, King Princess and Fontaines D.C.. All of the artists will cover one song from the 1967 original album.
