Ibeyi return with contagious new track "Away Away"
Ibeyi are back with new single/video "Away Away", a new single from their as-yet-untitled second record.
The twin sisters are based in Paris, Cuba, and London, and draw influences from these bases as well as their familial roots - the results are intoxicating. The XL-signed pair are following up their self-titled debut LP with a new album featuring input by label boss Richard Russell, Kamasi Washington, Chilly Gonzales, La Mala Rodriguez, and Meshell Ndgeocello; "Away Away" is the first taste.
"[It's about] looking out onto the world’s craziness, which is symbolized by the sirens heard in the track, and wondering if the promises of a better world will be made true," explain Ibeyi. The track is a hypnotic mix of organic dance and folk charm that ends with a "Yoruba chant for the Orisha Aggayu (the ferryman-like god who provides strength)."
