Hovvdy's Charlie Martin releases debut solo album Imaginary People
Charlie Martin, known as one half of Austin duo Hovvdy, has shared his 13-track debut solo album Imaginary People.
Martin's debut solo album was only confirmed last night (29 April) after Martin uploaded the final piece of his album artwork on Instagram, simply writing: "tonight :)".
The album, titled Imaginary People, features 13 songs, and was recorded on an 1870s Steinway grand piano at his mother-in-law's house in Mississippi. Martin finished his solo record at Austin's Estuary Recording, which is engineered by Evan Kaspar.
He says of the album and its fictional characters, "I’ve always found it therapeutic to weave fictional characters into songs, folding them into my own real or imaginary experiences. Usually, the character is someone I can help, or maybe they can help me — someone I empathise with and can learn from. I want people to hear the songs and feel comforted or lifted up. That’s always my goal."
