Hot Chip cover “Atomic Bomb” by cult Nigerian electronic musician William Onyeabor
The story of Nigerian musician William Onyeabor has been well-told in recent times. An obscure electronic pioneer of the late-70s and early-80s, Onyeabor abandoned music after becoming a born-again Christian decades ago. Despite, or indeed because of this, he’s become something of a cult figure ever since.
Now, a compilation is being released in the musician’s honour for Record Store Day on 19 April. WHAT?! – William Onyeabor Remixed will be issued by David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop, featuring covers and remixes from the likes of The Vaccines, Javelin, Daphni and more.
You can check out Hot Chip’s cover of “Atomic Bomb” before then below, along with Noisey’s recent documentary on Onyeabor.
