Hockeysmith returns with first single of 2020 "Hyper Kobra"
Hockeysmith, the project of Cornwall-based Annabel Hockeysmith, has returned with "Hyper Kobra", her first single of 2020.
"Hyper Kobra" is Hockeysmith's first new outing since last year's "Never Knowing".
The new track is the first to be shared from a series of sessions with Ed Banger producer Borussia, recorded in Paris during lockdown.
Hockeysmith says of the new song, "The lyrics are fresh about my feelings during confinement. I was inspired by people like the writer Ali Smith: it’s current - it’s political - the virus is a poignant theme at the heart of the song. And cobras are thought to be one of the deadliest and the most magical members of the snake family. They represent many things besides danger, venom, death and malice: cobras are also seen as graceful, elegant and fast. The Cobra sways in response to the movement and music of the charmer, who knows how to avoid the relatively slow strike."
Producer Borussia adds, "There are so many vocal gimmicks in this song - and they only happen once."
