British indie band, Hefner have become an unlikely soundtrack to anti-Thatcher sentiments as the former Prime Minister passes away.
The former PM and Baroness died today (8 April) after suffering a stroke at the age of 87. This has led to many on social media linking to the group’s track ‘The Day That Thatcher Dies’, lifted from their 2000 album We Love the City - a song tinged in both joyous celebration and self-acknowledged guilt.
The cut in question contains the opening lyrics:
“We will laugh the day that Thatcher dies,
Even though we know it’s not right,
We will dance and sing all night.”
