Hear the full version of Ben Gibbard's take on Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub
Ben Gibbard's full-length cover of Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub is available to stream now
The Death Club For Cutie frontman adds his signature touches to the seminal 1991 LP, which has been taken on for Turntable Kitchen's Sounds Delicious vinyl subscription service - it's now available digitally via Canvasback/Turntable Kitchen for those not subscribed.
"Turntable Kitchen approached me last summer about being part of their Sounds Delicious Vinyl series and I was excited about the idea of covering an album in its entirety," says Gibbard. "Bandwagonesque is my favorite record by my favorite band of all time. It came along at a pivotal time in my musical life and I've loved it for over 25 years. It's been such a blast taking these songs apart to see how they work and then putting them back together again."
"I was thrilled and extremely flattered when I heard that Ben Gibbard had decided to cover Bandwagonesque in its entirety. Needless to say that the reimagining of the album by this very talented fella is both inventive and deftly executed. Thanks Ben," adds Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake.
The vinyl edition comes with an exclusive 7" featuring covers of "Free Again" by Alex Chilton and "Bad Seeds" by Beat Happenings - it's a cover of a cover EP that Teenage Fanclub released shortly after the original Bandwagonesquearrived.
Gibbard's Bandwagonesque will be his first solo record since 2012; his most recent LP with DCFC, Kintsugi, was released in 2015. Teenage Fanclub made a welcome return last year with Here.
