Has Instagram given Taylor Swift a special tool to censor snake emojis?
Taylor Swift has been given unprecedented access on Instagram that lets her censor and remove negative comments, reports The Times.
Last week saw an almighty social media war between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West and Taylor Swift after the 'leaking' of a video refuting Swift's claim's she'd not okayed the infamous "Famous" verse.
As people celebrated the cracks in Swift's facade - mostly by posting snake emojis on her posts - she sought to quell the storm by pulling some strings.
"Instagram has provided [Swift] with a tool that allows her to automatically delete negative messages - without them having to be individually removed - meaning that they disappear from her account almost immediately," writes Vogue, via The Times. Basically, if you try and type a snake emoji on one of Swift's posts, it'll come up with an error, preventing the serpentine sass ever reaching the "Bad Blood" singer.
Hollywood Life suggests that this is part of a new feature for "high-profile users" that will help combat trolls. Perhaps Swift's exclusive access is a trial run? It's interesting she wanted the tool at all... couldn't she just shake it off?
An Instagram spokesperson refused to confirm the mystical tool's existence, but made a statement to Metro.co.uk: "We’re always looking for ways to help people have a positive experience with comments on Instagram. We’re currently focused on providing tools to improve accounts with the most high-volume comment threads. We will use our learnings to continue to improve the comment experience on Instagram."
Users would usually have to manually erase each problematic comment/snake emoji. Many have noted the stark contrast between Swift's recent controversy and the horrendous racial abuse of Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones on social media, specifically Twitter. Swift gets a magical eraser; Jones was forced to leave Twitter.
