Harps reign supreme on Joanna Newsom's new tune "Leaving The City"
Joanna Newsom has revealed a new track from upcoming album Divers, a harp-led escapade titled "Leaving The City".
As well as harps, Newsom employs jagged St. Vincent-isms, thumping percussion, and erratic vocal flourishes.
In late 2014, Newsom revealed that she was working on new music and starred in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice. Anderson in fact directed the video for the record's lead single "Sapokanikan".
The Divers listing on Drag City reads: "...further along and down the road apiece from where she took her leave of us, Joanna Newsom plays on. Breathe deep and equalize your today-ears to the new world of Divers..."
Nico Muhly, Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, Steve Albini, and Ryan Francesconi have contributed to the album.
Divers is out 23 October via Drag City, and you can pre-order it now. It follows 2010's Have One On Me.
Stream "Leaving The City" below. Newsom's upcoming U.K. and European shows can be found afterwards.
