Grimes doesn't want to reveal gender of her baby because "their privacy should be protected"
In a YouTube livestream last week, Grimes revealed she's keeping the gender of her unborn baby a secret because "their privacy should be protected".
To support her latest album Miss Anthropocene, Grimes hosted a YouTube livestream last Friday (21 February) which saw fans ask the musician about her pregnancy and baby. One fan asked the gender of the unborn child, resulting in Grimes revealing that she doesn't want to reveal the gender of her baby because "I feel like their privacy should be protected."
"I don't think they can consent to being famous or being in public," added Grimes. "And I don't want to gender them in case that's not how they feel in their life. I don't know; I just feel like it doesn't need to be known."
Another fan asked the same question to Grimes on Twitter. Grimes replied in a now-deleted tweet, "They may decide their fate and identity."
Grimes, aka Claire Boucher, also revealed in the livestream that she does have a name for her unborn child, but she isn't going to reveal it yet, "I have a name for the baby, but I don’t want to say what it is because everyone I’ve told it hates it, and everyone’s gonna make fun of it. But it is, in fact, a genius name and people just don’t appreciate it yet because it’s too avant-garde."
The Miss Anthropocene musician first revealed she was pregnant last month after posting a pregnancy picture to Instagram.
