Grammys update guidelines and rename several categories
The Grammys has uploaded its new 66-page rule book this morning (10 June), presenting a number of updates as well as changes to the names of several categories.
This is the first time in the Recording Academy's 63-year history that the guidelines have been posted online.
Some of the category names have changed - Best Urban Contemporary Album will now be Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best Rap/Sung Performance has changed to Best Melodic Rap Performance.
While it's positive that the Grammys are deciding to update the urban terms used in their categories, they have renamed one category to include that word, changing Latin Pop to Latin Pop and Urban.
Pitchfork reports that a Recording Academy representative said that the Latin Pop and Urban category could be changed again in the future.
One of the other updates include allowing committee members to work three years on and one year off, compared to the five years on, one year off rule that applied in the 62nd Grammys.
