Gorillaz debut new songs with AJ Tracey and Jelani Blackman during London show
During last night's (10 August) show for NHS workers at London's O2 Arena, Gorillaz debuted some new songs featuring AJ Tracey and Jelani Blackman.
Last night saw Gorillaz kick off their first of two free shows for NHS workers at London's O2 Arena, and as well as bringing out a range of guests to perform songs from across their discography, Gorillaz also debuted some new songs, which featured collaborators AJ Tracey, Jelani Blackman and Alicai Harley.
The Cure's Robert Smith joined them for Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez track "Strange Timez", and other artists including Peter Hook, Popcaan, Fatoumata Diawara, Little Simz, slowthai and Slaves, EARTHGANG, Shaun Ryder, Rowetta and more also joined Gorillaz onstage for the guest-heavy set.
On top of performing songs from their latest album Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez, Gorillaz played tracks from Demon Days, Plastic Beach and more.
As Stereogum reports, Gorillaz also debuted three new songs (one after the other) during the middle of their set. Those tracks included "Meanwhile" with Jelani Blackman, "Jimmy Jimmy" featuring AJ Tracey and "De Ja Vu" with Alicai Harley. Fan footage of the new songs has since appeared online, although the Jelani Blackman and AJ Tracey collaboration titles are the wrong way round.
When introducing Blackman, Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn said, "This is Jelani, and he's gonna introduce you to this new record that's coming out in a few weeks." According to the video description, it's an EP titled Carnival.
