Gojira sent Chvrches gifts after clash with Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta
Chvrches have revealed that Gojira sent them a gift after their clash with Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta over the Deftones’ Día De Los 2019 lineup.
Last month, Chvrches' Lauren Mayberry and Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta clashed over the lineup for Deftones' Día De Los lineup. Jasta took to Twitter to rant about how Chvrches were higher than Gojira in the Día De Los festival lineup. He wrote, "Who is churches with a v and why the fuck are they playing over Gojira get tha fuuuuuck outtta here have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe you’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes."
He added, "I’m sure they’re lovely people and a popular group, I don’t agree with the line up order, same w/ other festivals, if anyone is butt hurt about my opinion wait til you hear the podcast! Metal needs to be shown more respect. Longer career, legacy, more albums, bill em higher."
in a new interview with NME, Mayberry says of the incident, "I thought it was really cool because it just showed that kind of thinking in the metal community isn’t stood for any more, and Gojira actually sent us a merch package so we got a crap tonne of Gojira t-shirts. That was really nice. It reflects the community and informs the community."
Martin Doherty of Chvrches adds, "Who cares really? I mean, that guy. We’re living in different universes. What’s even the point in taking a swipe like that? I’ve been listening to Deftones since 1998 and they were always an alternative metal band. I wasn’t a huge metal fan but I was a massive Deftones fan. I think that anyone who’s narrow-minded like that totally misses the point of the band, as far as I can see."
Speaking to Dork earlier this week, Chvrches revealed they have a "new song" in the works, "It's my personal favourite thing we've ever done, and it’s coming soon," says Doherty. "It feels like a progression for the band. It’s probably the best song lyrically and melodically we’ve done and it signals a bit of a change in production for us. It’s an exciting direction but we were just following our noses as we always do in the studio and having fun."
