Girls Names unveil new single "I Was You"

24 September 2015, 13:05 | Written by Ben Curtis

Belfast four-piece Girls Names have released a new single ahead of the release of the band's third album, Arms Around A Vision.

"I Was You", which is also the album's closing track, is a shackle free hypnotic drone, which is somewhat Krautrock-esque in its delivery. The single also epitomises the fiercer sound that the band claim to have found on their latest album. Frontman Cathal Cully explains: "The song wrote itself. I was in a trance. I went for a wander and lost myself somewhere between my life then and my life in the present. The limbo of heartache took hold of my senses, and, if i was pushed to explain my state of mind at the time, I'd say i was transfixed by an idea of hatred and self-loathing. But there is no horror, no evil nor darkness without the existence of love, beauty and light. The song is positioned somewhere within that dialectic, and as such 'I Was You' is the most beautiful song in the Girls Names repertoire to date."

Arms Around A Vision is released through Tough Love Records on 2 October.
