Girl Ray unveil new single written when singer Poppy Hankin was just 16
Girl Ray have shared new song "The Way We Came Back", which was written when singer/guitarist Poppy Hankin was 16 years old.
The new number comes after the North London trio's festive release and summer debut Earl Grey.
"It's cute, I guess," says bassist Sophie Moss. "You kinda wanna skip to it, you know? Makes you think about arguments but it doesn't make you hate them that much. It's an early, early - we're talking pre-Earl Grey here - banger that we wanted to oil up. A plump cow that needed to be milked. It was one of the first songs Poppy wrote when she was 16 which we all found pretty impressive. Sly arrangement, good vibes here."
An accompanying set of visuals, directed by Rita Conry, were filmed on the Isle Of Sheppey during a blustery blizzard.
"We wanted to go for a '60s, beachy Californian pop video," says Conry. "The weather was below freezing, so it was ideal conditions to be roaming the beaches of Kent. It was actually quite beautiful though, and the song is about a journey, so our adventure fit quite nicely with that."
