Gazelle Twin and NYX share spellbinding title-track from collaborative album Deep England
Gazelle Twin and NYX are back with "Deep England", the title-track and second single from their upcoming collaborative album of the same name.
"Deep England" follows last year's lead track "Fire Leap", which was an interpretation of The Wicker Man soundtrack song of the same name.
Gazelle Twin, real name Elizabeth Bernholz, says of the track, "The original version of "Deep England" is a Ballardian meditation on the English rural in the 21st Century. Sung in the style of a sacred or ritualistic chant over a deep choral drone, Sian O’Gorman’s [NYX] reworking transformed the piece into a vast choral lament that felt so amazing to perform with NYX. One my favourite pieces on the whole album."
Deep England is an eight-track album that is an "electronic-choral expansion" of Gazelle Twin's 2018 LP Pastoral. The tracks from Pastoral have been reworked and put alongside original compositions by NYX, Paul Giovanni and William Blake.
The album was originally created to be performed live, and was premiered at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall in November 2019. Soon after the live shows the performance was transformed into a studio album, featuring co-production from Marta Salogni, O’Gorman and Bernholz, with mixing and additional programming by Marta Salogni and mastering by Heba Kadry.
