
Freddie Gibbs releases cover of Gil Scott-Heron’s "Winter in America"
Freddie Gibbs has delivered a cover of Gil Scott-Heron’s "Winter in America", released as part of a new EP called Black History Always – Music For The Movement Vol. 2.
After teaming up with ScHoolboy Q on "Gang Signs" earlier this month, Gibbs has returned with a smooth cover of Gil Scott-Heron's "Winter in America" track, which originally appeared on Scott-Heron, keyboardist Brian Jackson and the Midnight Band's The First Minute of a New Day album in 1975.
Gibbs' version of the '70s track is released today (26 February) as part of the Black History Always – Music For The Movement Vol. 2 EP, the second collaboration between ESPN’s The Undefeated and Hollywood Records that also sees Tinashe covering Chaka Khan and an original track called "Eden" from Brent Faiyaz.
On top of releasing "Winter in America" today, Gibbs has also made an appearance on Joyce Wrice's "On One" single.
