Francis Lung previews new album with second single "Lonesome No More"
Francis Lung has released new cut "Lonesome No More" today (31 March) as the second taster of his forthcoming Miracle album.
The Manchester-based singer/songwriter announced his second solo album Miracle last month with lead outing "Bad Hair Day", and has today (31 March) returned with second single "Lonesome No More".
Lung's new single is teamed with a cartoon-style animated video directed by Grant Peacock, and highlights the isolation many musicians are experiencing at the moment due to being unnable to tour because of the global pandemic.
He says of the track, "The title comes from a science-fiction novel in which every family in America is assigned an extended family to cure a loneliness epidemic. The idea of curing loneliness inspired the first lines of the song "loneliness I miss you / but unbeknownst to me that loneliness it does miss me too."
Lung adds, "When I thought about loneliness as something personified, it seemed to be like a friend or a lover who is a bad influence. Someone that encourages you to feel sorry for yourself, makes you want to drink more ("you just made sober seem so tedious") but at the same time, someone you just can’t stay away from. The song to me is like a farewell to a state of mind that I fall back into all too easily."
Miracle will follow Lung's 2019 debut solo album A Dream Is U, and was recorded at Wales' Giant Wafer studios in early 2020 with Brendan Williams (Dutch Uncles, Matthew Halsall, Kiran Leonard) and Robin Koob, who co-arranged and performed strings.
He says of the album, "For me, [Miracle] is about the struggle between my self-destructive side and my problem-solving, constructive side. I suppose through a lot of these songs I’m dealing with these emotional problems, acknowledging the negative aspects of my behaviour instead of burying them, and providing an alternative point of view for myself."
Lung adds, "I don’t want to be defined by my anxiety, my depression or any history of substance abuse, but I do want to reach out to other people who have had similar experiences, especially if it’s in a way that helps them feel a little better. To me, this music is celebrating healing as much as it focuses on the darker sides of the human psyche."
