Foals make their monumental return with huge new cut "Exits"
After teasing for what feels like forever, Foals are back with the huge new single "Exits", and reveal more details for their first of two albums arriving this year.
Foals have been keeping fans on their toes since the new year. First they announced two albums arriving this year, then revealed that the first, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost, will be released on 8 March.
Last week they continued to build momentum towards their new single "Exits" by leading fans on an envelope treasure hunt to different public exits in major cities around the world. Inside those envelopes were the lyrics to their first single "Exits", which is, of course, what they've delivered today.
The new track arrives with visuals directed by Albert Moya, starring French actress Christa Théret, and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark from Game of Thrones)
Expanding on the new offering, frontman Yannis Philippakis explains, “There's a definite idea about the world being no longer habitable in the way that it was. A kind of perilousness lack of predictability and a feeling of being overwhelmed by the magnitudes of the problems we face. What's the response? And what’s the purpose of any response that one individual can have?"
"Exits" is the first single from Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost. Their second album is expected to land in Autumn. Both records are produced by Philippakis, and were created at 123 Studios in Peckham with engineer Brett Shaw.
Expanding on the two records, Philippakis explains, "They’re two halves of the same locket. They can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally, they are companion pieces."
He adds, “Lyrically, there are resonances with what's going on in the world at the moment. I just feel like, what’s the utility of being a musician these days, if you can’t engage with at least some of this stuff? These songs are white flags, or they’re SOSs, or they’re cries for help… each in a different way."
