Foals implement GoPro's Virtual Reality technology for "Mountain At My Gates" video
Foals have shared their Nabil-directed interactive visuals for latest single "Mountain At My Gates".
Created in partnership with GoPro - which was shot "entirely on GoPro's spherical Virtual Reality technology" - the video sees the band perform as the landscape crumbles around them. It is the first time ever that GoPro's new technology has been used in a music video. To watch the clip, you'll need to be using the YouTube app or Google Chrome.
Director Nabil briefly spoke of the groundbreaking nature of the clip: “We are at the beginning of what we can really do with this technology. It has the power to transport you.”
Speaking to NME, Foals' frontman Yannis Philippakis said of the track: “I’d recorded the beginning riff on my phone ages ago. At the beginning it had a baggy feel, but became less so with more work. The central image - “I see a mountain at my gates” was from me getting more interested in seeing what would come out lyrically where there wasn’t a pre-conceived idea. Normally I write voraciously in books and journals, then harvest a lot of that for the record. This, though, came out instantaneously in the room.”
What Went Down is released 28 August.
