Flying Lotus releases Yasuke double single featuring Thundercat and Niki Randa
Flying Lotus has released two songs from his upcoming soundtrack for Netflix anime series Yasuke, "Black Gold" with Thundercat, and "Between Memories" featuring Niki Randa.
The first trailer for Netflix's new anime series Yasuke was unveiled earlier this month, and confirmed an original score by Grammy-winning artist Flying Lotus, and today (20 April) he's shared two tracks from the soundtrack.
Both tracks feature collaborating artists, and the first one "Black Gold" sees Flying Lotus reunite with fellow Grammy winner Thundercat, while "Between Memories" sees him also reunite with frequent collaborator Niki Randa.
Netflix’s Yasuke is a six-episode anime series that's been three years in the making. It's created by LeSean Thomas, and stars actor/executive producer LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Sorry To Bother You) as the voice of the lead character.
Flying Lotus says of working on the anime series, "[LeSean] and I talked about being outsiders in anime. I was like, ‘Why aren't more Black kids trying to do this? Why is it so out of the ordinary?' He was saying that it's because they don't have examples."
He adds, "This time, I had complete creative control over what I was doing and it [the series] was something that I've been a part of since the very beginning. I have a bit more of an attachment to it and I think that created some interesting dynamics between me and everybody working on the show because I'm very passionate about my music, first off, but also very passionate about the show, and so I have a lot to say about everything - all of the time."
