Florence and The Machine to replace Foo Fighters as Glastonbury headliner
Florence and The Machine is set to headline Friday night at Glastonbury following the departure of Foo Fighters due to lead singer Dave Grohl's quite broken leg.
Florence Welch and her band had originally been scheduled as the special guests on the Friday, before being bumped up. She's no stranger to festival headlining, having topped the Bestival bill a few years ago.
Welch said of the new slot: "I'm so sorry to hear that Dave Grohl has broken his leg. I met him when we were just starting out and he is honestly one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Having just experienced a broken foot I know how devastating it can be to break something on stage so I am sending him all my love. Glastonbury have asked us to step in which is an incredible honour. We hope we will be able to give you just as good a Friday night as the Foos..."
Speaking about the shift in lineup, festival organiser Emily Eavis said: “Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
Welch's most recent record How Big How Blue How Beautiful is out now. She joins Kanye West and The Who in headlining the Worthy Farm event next week.
