FKA Twigs links with Headie One and Fred again.. for powerful new cut "Don't Judge Me"
FKA Twigs has teamed up with Headie One and producer Fred again.. for new single "Don't Judge Me", the expanded version of "Judge Me (Interlude)" that featured on Headie One's 2020 GANG mixtape.
"Don't Judge Me" marks FKA Twigs' first outing as the lead artist since her 2019 second album MAGDALENE.
The collaboration was first teased on last year's GANG mixtape by Headie One and Fred again.. with "Judge Me (Interlude)", and last night (26 January) the fulll version was unnveiled with a stunning video directed by FKA Twigs and Emmanuel Adjei.
FKA Twigs' new video stars Black Lives Matter activist Solomon O.b, DJ/broadcaster Clara Amfo, writer Reni Eddo-Lodge, model and activist Kukua Williams, musician and poet Benjamin Zephaniah, dancer and singer Lisa Elde, mental health advocate Nicole Crentsil, fitness expert and trainer Efua Baker, footballer Mahlon Romeo, activist and model Munroe Bergdorf and model Danto Earth.
Director Adjei says of the video, "In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain 'Fons Americanus' by visual artist Kara Walker - depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization - as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history."
According to the video description, Young Turks Recordings are donating their profits from this single to The Black Curriculum.
It's currently unclear if "Don't Judge Me" will appear on a future project, as she did reveal in October last year that she made "a whole album in quarantine". A month later Dua Lipa confirmed that she and FKA Twigs had collaborated on a song together.
