Five Day Forecast: Francis Lung
Francis Lung chats with us ahead of his Five Day Forecast show with Postiljonen and IIRIS next Friday.
Lung, aka Tom McClung (formerly of Wu Lyf), has been peppering the airwaves with his emotional paeans like "Back One Day" and "Oh My Love", impressing onlookers with his strident blend of innovative compositions and heart-wrenching lyrics. If 2015 saw the introduction of Lung as a formidable player in the world of music, 2016 will see him cemented as a force to be reckoned with.
Tickets for the Five Day Forecast are on sale now.
Stream "Back One Day" below, and then read the Five Day Forecast Q&A after.
Could you introduce yourself for those that might not be familiar with what you do?
I'm Francis Lung. I write and record songs and I release them through my label Songs Records.
What do you try to do with your music and how do you achieve this?
I try to write what I think, but sometimes I don’t know what I think. I work on the premise that if I write something that moves me, it will probably move somebody else too. “Follow the goosebumps...” - Rev. Westerberg; Goosebumps - R.L Stine.
Can you tell us what musical and non-musical influences have shaped your sound?
Musically I’ve always been captivated by the sound of pianos. Pianos sound good if your music is good, and the opposite is also true.
Non-musically I think minimal drawings by artists like Matisse have taught me that less is most definitely less.
What should people expect from your Five Day Forecast show?
Expect the expected. Plus extras. On behalf of the band I’d like to inform people that we plan to rock and that our plans rarely go awry.
What are you working on now/next?
Working on a Vol. II EP companion to the Vol. I EP. It will be available in the summer. After that I’ll be working on a 12” record that plays at 33 1/3 rpm.
How is 2016 shaping up? What are you looking forward to this year?
2016 will be a great year. I’m looking forward to playing the closing party of the Five Day Forecast, our UK tour in March, releasing our Vol. II EP, and meeting strange, beautiful people on our travels
