Norwegian singer/songwriter EERA is playing our new music festival the Five Day Forecast on Monday with Sabella and Haelos, and we wanted to find out more about what to expect.
EERA - aka Anna Lena Bruland - toys with texture through her emotive compositions, and you can expect a heap of otherworldly gorgeousness when she hits up The Lexington.
2016 is looking to be a hectic year for EERA, as she preps her self-titled debut EP (out 4 March), writes and records her debut album, and performs across the continent. Catch her at the Five Day Forecast ahead of her lunge into the spotlight.
Tickets for the Five Day Forecast are on sale now.
Stream latest single "Drive With Fear" below, and check out the Q&A after.
Could you introduce yourself for those that might not be familiar with what you do?
I’m originally from Norway but moved to the UK eight years ago. Since then I’ve been involved in several bands, however I’m now finally ready to release my own solo project - something I’m of course very excited about.
What do you try to do with your music and how do you achieve this?
For me, the most important thing is that there is a strong song behind whatever arrangements we’ve created around it. I want to be able to play the song stripped down and it still be a strong and meaningful song. I guess I achieve this by recording guitar and vocal demos and not going any further with the song until I’m completely happy with it.
Can you tell us what musical and non-musical influences have shaped your sound?
My Grandad has always been a big influence for me. He was a big conductor back in the '60s and travelled the world conducting some of the most famous orchestras. It was really fascinating watching the way he reacted to music; I once put on one of his favourite classical records and his whole body language changed, he even started crying. He would completely lose himself within the music - it was his life.
Genres that inspire me are usually on the grunge/rock side. I love PJ Harvey, Deerhoof, Blonde Redhead and also 'older' stuff like Fugazi and Pixies. I also go through phases of being obsessed with one artist, currently Alex G - his song “Kicker” is just perfect.
What should people expect from your Five Day Forecast show?
I’d like to say expect backing dancers and 3D holograms but sadly, not yet. At the moment I simply want to give people a great listening experience and we play everything live (no backing tracks here.)
What are you working on now/next?
I’m now working towards the release of my first EP, which will be out in March 2016 via House Arrest Records.
How is 2016 shaping up? What are you looking forward to this year?
2016 is going to be a very exciting year! I am very much looking forward to playing at BY:Larm in Oslo in March. It’s such a great festival, and it will be fun playing my songs live back in my home country. I’m also going to start recording my debut album, which I’ve been longing to do for a very long time. Can’t wait to get started!
