Fiona Apple's "Shameika" in new Candyman film following pledge to donate royalties to charity
Fiona Apple's Fetch The Bolt Cutters track "Shameika" appears in the new Candyman film after she pledged to donate royalties from TV and movie placements of the song to the Harlem Children’s Zone last year.
Last Friday (27 August) the Nia DaCosta-directed reboot of Candyman was released in UK cinemas, and as Pitchfork reports, Fiona Apple's "Shameika" is played on a record player during a scene in an art critic’s apartment.
The use of "Shameika" in a film comes over a year after Apple announced that she would donate all royalties from TV and movie placements of "Shameika" and another Fetch The Bolt Cutters track "Heavy Balloon" to two charities until summer 2022.
If Apple keeps her promise, royalties from Candyman's use of "Shameika" will go to the Harlem Children’s Zone.
