Father John Misty unveils theatrical new single "Pure Comedy", new album coming April
Father John Misty has shared "Pure Comedy", a lush new piece of supremely dark piano balladry.
The track arrives with a new video by Matthew Daniel Siskin - "and everyone in America", apparently - with animated, Quentin Blake-meets-Ralph Steadman portions and morsels of live action footage. It's got clips of Trump, Obama, Snyder's pretzel pieces, bovine pals, Kanye, Clinton, John Cena, natural disasters, and lots more - it all makes for mesmerising viewing. The lyrics are particularly gallows humoursy to boot.
"Pure Comedy" follows a bunch of one-off singles, including "Real Love Baby" and "Holy Hell", but this seems a lot more polished than previous offerings.
Is this the first proper teaser of Misty's I Love You, Honeybear follow up? UPDATE: Yes! An eagle-eyed Reddit user spotted the artwork, the title (Pure Comedy), a release date (7 April), and lots of brilliant merchandise.
