Family of Beach Slang singer James Alex respond to allegations of emotional abuse
The family of Beach Slang vocalist James Alex have shared a lengthy statement via the band's Instagram responding to emotional abuse allegations.
James Alex's family have uploaded a statement to Beach Slang's Instagram responding to emotional abuse allegations made by former manager Charlie Lowe. In the statement, Alex's family reveal the musician is in "an inpatient facility after attempting to take his life", and added that Alex will be "on a true path to recovery".
Beach Slang's former manager Charlie Lowe made accusations of emotional abuse against James Alex on Twitter last week. She claimed to have endured "constant emotional, psychological & narcissistic abuse from James Alex for years", and revealed she's been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) following his behaviour.
Responding to Lowe's claims, Alex's family wrote, "Yes he had moments of compulsiveness, emotional instability, and chaotic relationships, but none of his actions were intentional or meant to hurt or harm anyone, certainly not those who cared for or believed in him."
His family revealed in the statement that Alex has been diagnosed with "Bipolar Disorder, Paranoid Schizophrenia, and now Borderline Personality Disorder", and added, "While mental illness does not excuse anyone to cause others emotional duress, it should at least be acknowledged that it may cause one to unknowingly hurt others and themselves with their words and actions."
The family also shared that Alex had started "treatment before these allegations were made", and added he's "now in an inpatient facility after attempting to take his life". The statement continued, "Please know you’ve been heard. While it may have not felt like enough, or that it came soon enough, he has tried to make amends and reconcile his behaviours." Lowe has since responded to Alex's family's statement on Twitter, writing, "Also that "statement" contains no apology whatsoever nor does it mention me at all, effectively silencing me as the victim & putting the spotlight right back on James for sympathy. It’s unreal how fucking gross this is & continues to be."
