2022 Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra auction off trophy to support Ukrainian military
This year's Eurovision Song Contest winners Kalush Orchestra have auctioned off the crystal microphone trophy to support the Ukrainian military.
The Ukrainian group who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy earlier this month have sold their crystal microphone trophy at auction for $900,000 (£712,000), with aims to support their country's military by buying multiple PD-2 drone systems.
According to Sky News, the auction took place yesterday (29 May) via Facebook, and was hosted by Ukrainian TV presenter Serhiy Prytula.
On top of auctioning off their Eurovision trophy, Kalush Orchestra raised a further $370,000 (£293,000) for Ukraine's military forces by hosting a raffle for the pink bucket hat that lead vocalist Oleh Psiuk wore during their Eurovision performance. Sky News notes that over 31,000 people from 56 countries took part in the raffle.
