Eleanor Friedberger sings in front of texting audience member until he puts his phone away
The overuse of phones at gigs has been top of the music agenda recently, with both Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Savages voicing their frustration at audience members filming their sets via smartphones. Another key annoyance of this ilk has also long been gig-goers checking their iPhones or Blackberries while a band is playing, especially for Fiery Furnaces musician Eleanor Friedberger at least.
At a recent show supporting her second solo full-length, Friedberger reportedly underlined such irritation at someone in the front row scrolling through their texts and tweets during her set by proceeding to exit the stage and sing right in front of the guilty party until they stopped.
The folk over at We Listen For You were in attendance of said show at Radio Radio, Indianapolis last week (25 June) and posted about the incident on Instagram, writing: “Last night, Eleanor Friedberger spotted a guy texting in the front row mid song. She went off stage and sang in front of him until he put the phone away.”
