Ed Sheeran links with Ukraine's Antytila on new remix of "2step"
Ed Sheeran has teamed up with Ukrainian band Antytila for a new remix of "2step", and has pledged to donate some of the royalties from the remix over the next year to Music Saves UA.
The new remix of "2step" is teamed with a Mitya Shmurak-directed video, which also stars Antytila's Taras Topolia.
Sheeran has also pledged to donate funds raised over the next 12 months from YouTube video to Music Saves UA, "a non-profit fundraising project established by the All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to those who need it most in Ukraine."
The original version of "2step" featured on Sheeran's = album, and the Henry Scholfield-directed video for the first remix featuring Lil Baby that arrived last month was shot in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2021.
Antytila's Taras Topolia wrote of the "2step" remix, "Ed's suggestion to work together is a manifestation of the genuine support for Ukraine, shown by the people of Great Britain during this war. Millions of people, not only in words but in concrete deeds, show how it really is to stand up for their principles, democracy and freedom and to give a hand to those, who really need it. It seems like just a joint song, but how symbolic it is in fact. In our current circumstances it was really challenging to write and record Ukrainian lyrics to Ed’s song. In addition to this, Bobina Records studio, where we used to record our own songs, was under russian scumd’ occupation. But thanks to Maksym Syvolap, our friend, irreplaceable co-author and arranger of many songs, we succeeded to do our part."
A press release states that Sheeran will be teaming up with other artists around the world over the next month for other remixes of "2step".
