Ed Sheeran has an unprecedented amount of songs in the charts
Ed Sheeran's meteoric rise has been cemented this week with an almost total stranglehold on the UK charts.
The singer/songwriter had 16 of the Top 40 tracks in the midweek update, with nine in the Top 10 and all of the first four places. All three of his albums were in the Top 5.
Now, ÷ (Divide) has racked up a mightily impressive 672,000 sales, making him the fastest-selling solo male artist ever. He hurtled into the lead and left last week's Number One in the dust, even rivalling Adele's monumental achievements (although he didn't quite match the 800,000 she scored). Sheeran holds all of the Top 5 tracks and only one other artist has a song in the Top 15. The omnipresent balladeer now has more cold, hard stats to reinforce his iron grip on the UK music scene.
