Drake reportedly persuading footballer Jermain Defoe to leave Tottenham for Toronto FC
It’s well-known that Drake is a big fan of soccer. It’s also no secret that he’s pretty damn proud of his hometown of Toronto. It’s not completely surprising then that he should try to persuade football stars to join his local team.
That’s supposedly what he’s trying to do, with the Metro reporting that the rapper has convinced Tottenham’s out-of-favour striker Jermain Defoe to join Toronto FC.
“Defoe is expected to be announced as a Toronto player next month, but will be loaned back to Spurs until the MLS season begins in March,” the newspaper writes. “The forward was concerned that the move across the pond could affect his World Cup chances but believes the offer is too good to turn down and remains optimistic he can make Roy Hodgson’s squad for Brazil.”
Drake currently holds a “global ambassador” role at Toronto FC.
