Doomshakalaka shares new single "One Last Saturday Night"
Ex-Hot Club de Paris vocalist Paul Rafferty, aka Doomshakalaka, has shared his new single "One Last Saturday Night", the opening track from his forthcoming self-titled debut album.
"One Last Saturday Night" is the third taster of the debut record, arriving after previous releases "James Asleep" and "Black Balloons".
Rafferty says the new single "was the first song written for the record back in 2011, before I even knew that there was going to be a record."
He adds, "It's a love letter to the past and the feeling of possibility we experience in youth. Adulthood is a cliff we sleepwalk off and responsibility lurks below. You can try and fall for as long as you want, but at some point you'll plunge into the analogous sea. What if you could go back for one last lost weekend, before the free fall of real life and responsibility?"
Not only did Rafferty write the songs for his new Doomshakalaka project, he also engineered, produced, and mixed his new material.
Discussing the topics on the album, Rafferty says, "It’s largely a record about remembering moments from my teens and 20s and what those moments mean to me now. I love the texture that ageing brings to an artist’s output. I like the sound of a big hole dug deep."
