Dominic Fike discusses debut album and music in jail with BROCKHAMPTON's Kevin Abstract
Dominic Fike has uploaded a new video which sees him being asked questions by BROCKHAMPTON's Kevin Abstract, and they talk about his debut album, accessing music in jail, and more.
IN-FOCUS was uploaded to Fike's YouTube yesterday (21 June), and sees the musician being interviewed while sitting at the edge of a pool.
At the start of the clip, Fike reveals he still feels tense, saying, "It's how I feel most of the time. Ever since all this shit happened I feel so tense all the time. I shake a lot when I wake up, and before I go to sleep, and when I'm drunk, and right before I get high." After asking if anyone else gets the shakes, Fike adds, "I guess I’m just, I’m always anxious."
Fike is asked how long he spent writing his forthcoming debut LP, to which he replies, "two years, three years. Two-and-a-half."
Abstract goes on to ask what Fike listened to while he was in jail. Fike responds, "You can't listen to music but, the sink would play sounds. The sink had a tone, it had a note to it. I called my producer one day and I banged on my sink and asked him what note it was."
Fike continues, "I banged on the sink and sang the note all the way back to the phone, and I called him and asked him what note it was and he said it was a C major and from there I was able to play the note and sing up the C major scale and then I was able to write music that way."
