Dolly Parton turns down Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2022 nomination
Dolly Parton has politely declined her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2022 nomination, writing that she doesn't "feel that I have earned that right."
Last month Dolly Parton was announced as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2022 nominee alongside Kate Bush, A Tribe Called Quest, Eminem, Rage Against the Machine, Fela Kuti, New York Dolls, Judas Priest, Eurythmics and more, and this afternoon (14 March) she shared a statement on socials declining the offer.
Parton wrote, "Dolly here! Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out."
"I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again - if I'm ever worthy," Parton continued. "This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock’n’roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock’n’roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one. I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment. Good luck!"

In February 2021 Parton also politely turned down plans to have own statue outside the Tennessee State Capitol, saying she didn't think it was "appropriate at this time".
Just last month it was announced that Dollywood, the Tennessee amusement park co-owned by Parton, will cover tuition costs, fees and books for all employees who pursue higher education.
