Doldrums signs to Sub Pop, announces new LP The Air Conditioned Nightmare
Montreal noisenik Doldrums, fronted by Airick Woodhead, has inked a deal with Sub Pop, announced a new album, and shared a new single.
Doldrums' Sub Pop debut will be called The Air Conditioned Nightmare, named after Henry Miller's novel of the same name. The press release describes the novel as about Miller returning to the USA after 10 years in exile: "keen to rediscover the country he left behind, Miller found it a stifling place of big business, pollution, credit, misinformation and prejudice. In short: a spiritual, moral, cultural and aesthetic vacuum."
Talking about the record itself, Woodhead said:
“Conflict is at the heart of this album. There’s a lot of paranoid sentiment and Dystopian imagery in there. The threat of a mundane reality ties it together, as does an obsession with plasticity. Songs come from specific feelings or images. Anxiety is my default state”
Everyone who pre-orders the vinyl edition of The Air Conditioned Nightmare from Sub Pop will receive the limited 'Loser Edition' on clear vinyl and a limited edition 7” which features the songs "IDONTWANNABEDELETED" (ft. Samantha Urbani) and "Market Signals".
