DMX's official cause of death has been revealed
The official cause of death of rap legend DMX has been revealed, three months after he passed.
Nearly exactly three months ago, DMX died aged 50. It was reported that he died from an alleged drug overdose and heart attack, but the official cause of death has only bee revealed today (8 July).
According to Vulture, a source from the Westchester County medical examiner’s office said the rap legend died from a cocaine-induced heart attack that resulted in a lack of blood circulation in his brain.
The source said, "It was cardiac arrest for a period of time, so there was no circulation to the brain." The source added that cocaine had "caused this chain of events".
Vulture reports that the source confirmed the presence of cocaine in DMX's urine, and that the examiner’s office did not perform an autopsy as the cause of death has been determined through documentation by medical professionals and police.
The source said of his death, "His death literally happened immediately because the brain was dead." They added, "So obviously, there were a number of days where he was on ventilatory support and so forth in the hospital, however, he was diagnosed brain-dead early on … He never woke up from [a] coma."
