DMX files for bankruptcy after racking up millions worth of debt
Rapper DMX is well-known for his brushes with the law, but now he’s adding financial uncertainty to his long list of legal issues.
As The Wall Street Journal note, the New York native filed for bankruptcy yesterday in Manhattan, citing between $1-10 million in debt, as well as under $50,000 in current assets. It was also revealed that DMX owes $1.24 million in child support.
DMX’s publicist, however, says that the procedure is simply so he can travel abroad to tour later this year. A statement from his PR reads:
“DMX’s financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years. Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport. The purpose of this bankruptcy filing is for reorganization so he can perform for his fans oversees. We are currently planning a tour in Europe and Africa for the fall of 2013.”
DMX released his first album in six years during 2012 in the form of Undisputed.
