Dirty Projectors' Angel Deradoorian announces debut solo LP, airs "A Beautiful Woman"
Angel Deradoorian, the former bassist/vocalist for The Dirty Projectors, has announced her debut solo LP, and shared its lead single "A Beautiful Woman".
The Brooklyn artist's upcoming album is titled The Expanding Flower Planet, and follows 2009's Mind Raft EP.
Speaking about the record's title (inspired by a Chinese tapestry), Deradoorian said: “It started to represent to me the growing consciousness of the human mind in the world today... so the first song I wrote, which I felt appropriate for the album, was called Expanding Flower Planet and represents this desire to broaden the mind and it's capabilities beyond what we are told it can do."
The recording process stretched over many years and locations, beginning in earnest in Baltimore four years ago. "90%" of the long-player was written and performed by Deradoorian, with contributions from Jeremy Hyman, Michael Lockwood, Niki Randa, Arlene Deradoorian and Gilmore.
Deradoorian has also collaborated with Ra Ra Riot, Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, Rostam Batmanglij, Flying Lotus and more in her career.
The Expanding Flower Planet is released 21 August by Anticon.
